Stepping into Feng Chia, Embracing Green Energy, and Beginning a Journey Around the World | Feng Chia University Master's Program in Green Energy Technology, Ting-Wu Ke

Once, I always felt that those who pursued their interests and dreams were so dazzling. As time passed, the uncertainty of my future after graduation made me increasingly anxious. However, during a class in the second semester of my sophomore year, I met Professor Cheng-Yung Chu, the director of the Green Energy Products Center. As a pioneer in Taiwan's green energy field, Professor Chu's team and their projects deeply attracted me.

Driven by courage, I boldly recommended myself and joined this team filled with Ph.D. students and international researchers, beginning my research journey. This decision marked the start of my academic journey around the world.

Stepping Out: Internship in Italy

Understanding the importance of foreign language skills, I am grateful for the meticulous training and support from my parents and professors. In the summer of 2022, with the support of the Ministry of Education's Dream Building Program, I obtained an internship at the Institute of Atmospheric Pollution Research of the National Research Council of Italy. During the internship, local researchers not only guided me in the professional knowledge of biogas engineering but also taught me how to write journal manuscripts. Besides the internship, I had the opportunity to visit many famous attractions in northern Italy. Seeing is believing, and the cultural impact deeply inspired me, setting a silent goal in my heart—to see the world.

Exploring the International Academic Stage

The internship in Italy broadened my horizons and sparked my interest in developing green energy. In the second semester of my junior year, I decided to join the master's program to further my studies. In 2023, I participated in the PACCON International Conference on Chemical Diversity Driving Sustainable Development held in Thailand, where I presented my research findings. Although my presentation was not particularly impressive, receiving feedback from experts and scholars in the same field was a significant experience for me. At this conference, I had the honor of listening to a lecture by Nobel Prize winner David MacMillan. He not only showcased his outstanding research achievements but also conveyed his relentless spirit in scientific research, which greatly inspired me.

Combining Knowledge to Create New Sparks

Combining the mechanical drawing skills I learned from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Systems Management, I participated in the Taiwan Green Energy Creative Competition and the APEC YES CHALLENGE held in Indonesia. Leading the team, we developed a new anaerobic fermentation biogas fertilizer reactor and stood out among hundreds of participating teams, winning the Excellent Work Award and the Annual Championship. The innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities demonstrated in the competition were highly praised by the judges.

Revisiting Europe, Continuously Improving

In April 2024, I completed my master's research and thesis writing on schedule. I am sincerely grateful to my professors for the resources they provided, helping me secure a 10-month internship at the University of Hohenheim in Germany. In Germany, I witnessed the engineering technology of a country known for its industrial prowess and learned to operate the most advanced "steam explosion" treatment technology. Immersed in the joy of acquiring new knowledge, I hope to transform what I have seen and heard into seeds of innovation, continuing to explore the field of green energy and contributing to global environmental protection and sustainable development.
